SECRETARY GENERAL UN’s SPECAIL ENVOY MEETS PRIVATISATION MINISTER

Mr. Jean-Maurie Ripert, Special Envoy to the Secretary General United Nations for Assistance to Pakistan held a meeting with Senator Waqar Ahmed Khan Federal Minister for Privatisation here today.

The Minister underlined the need to have trade not aid with the donor countries for the economic uplift of Pakistan, as the economic stability was essential for the country’s stability. We were maximizing the potential of our State Owned Entities (SOEs) to bring them to their optimal level.

Senator Waqar Ahmed Khan added that the consistency of economic relations with the donor countries was the key toward economic development of Pakistan, which would ensure education, infrastructure, technical, management and socio economic expertise in order to engage common man by providing job opportunities and to accelerate the pace of economic activity. Our focus was on economic development and stability to have good governance with utmost transparency, he added.

Mr. Jean-Maurie Ripert, Special Envoy to the Secretary General United Nations for Assistance to Pakistan assured the Minister that he would advocate for Pakistan’s economic stability and said that more political dialogue with the donor community and United Nations was the need of the hour. There existed incredible potential and interest in Pakistan among the donor community, which would be transformed into continuous and consistent economic relations through the deliberations of the upcoming Pakistan Development Forum, he added.
