The privatisation process of 23 State owned Entities (SoEs) has been stepped
up. Senator Waqar Ahmed Khan Federal Minister for Privatisation said during an
informal chat with a group of media men here today.
The Minister said that among these 23 active transactions the major
transactions include Pakistan Post Office Department (PPOD), Faisalabad
Electric Supply Company (FESCO), Hyderabad Electric supply Company (HESCO),
Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO), Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO),
Utility Store Corporation and Stores, Kot Addu Power Company (KAPCO), Jamshoro
Power Company Limited (JPCL), National Power Construction Company (NPCC), SME
Bank Limited, Pakistan Machine Tool Factory and Heavy Electrical Complex (HEC).
Senator Waqar Ahmed Khan further informed that marketing efforts have been
geared up within and outside the country. Domestic and international investors
were being approached in view of the improved investment climate. All efforts
were being made to attract potential business groups to participate in the
Privatisation Program for the improvement in the overall economy by brining in
fresh investments, generating more taxes and employments, increasing
production and improving quality and efficiency.
The Minister indicated that the government would fully involve the people,
press and the parliamentarians to make the privatisation process very open and
transparent. We would carryout the privatisation of SOE transactions in the
interest of the 170 million people of Pakistan who were the real owners of
these assets, he added.
