The Privatisation Division (PD) was created on 28th November, 2000, to administer the activities of the Privatisation Commission (PC), which is governed under the Privatisation Commission Ordinance 2000. In November 2002, the scope of the Ministry was expanded by attaching the Board of Investment to it. Later on, the Division was bifurcated in October, 2007 into the ‘Privatisation Division’ and ‘Investment Division’, under the same Ministry.

In 2013, the ‘Ministry of Privatisation’ was abolished and the division was merged with the newly created Ministry of Finance, Revenue, Economic Affairs, Statistics and Privatisation.
